Our Cruise Line recommendations for South America
late 2016 / 2017

Holland America Line
Zaandam rated 4 star plus by us

Strengths: Very fine all round reliability and consistency, appeals to couples 45 years and over, personable smiling Filipino and Indonesian staff, choice of evening dining venues. Good cabin sizes at every level. Sliding roof over pool is a bonus in this region. Zaandam has just 1400 guests

Weaknesses:  Main restaurant evening dining quality is a little hit and miss, although alternative options are very consistent. Some Asian staff need to brush up on their English skills

Celebrity Cruises
Infinity   rated 4 star plus by us

Strengths: Recently fully refurbished, Infinity offers large, comfy cabins, lots of balconies, spacious surroundings and fine evening dining - a mainstream quality product. Appeals to all ages

Weaknesses: Wine and drink prices on the high side, the high grade balcony cabins suffer from extended overhang and eliminates natural light, better to go for midrange balcony grades

Oceania Cruises
Marina  rated 4 star plus

Strengths: It is unusual in today's marketplace to
find a new midsize ship. Marina has just 1250 guests, ideal for couples, excellent choice of open dining venues . Fine public room décor, lots of attention to detail.  Creative dining quality

Weaknesses: Wine and drink prices on the high side, tipping levels are also higher than the norm, sight lines in show lounge could be better.

Silversea
Silver Spirit  rated 5 star by us

Strengths: Fine quality accommodation throughout, the Spirit has 540 guests , reliable performer, never a feeling of being a part of the crowd. All suite accommodation, most with balcony, a household name in the UK, the Silversea trademark is it's inclusiveness with tipping, wines, drinks, champagne and open bar included in the price

Weaknesses: There are little inconsistencies in the dining and service areas, and can be a bit 'hit and miss' at times, entertainment has room for improvement

Regent Seven Seas Cruises
Seven Seas Mariner      rated 5 star plus by us

Strengths: the deluxe Seven Seas Mariner offers all balcony suite accommodation, a World first. Open, flexible dining, choice of dining venues, excellent creative menus. Inclusive of wines, champagne and open bar, tipping included. Stylish and spacious with just 700 pampered guests. Selected excursions also included

WeaknessesDécor is contemporary, but a little lacklustre, evening entertainment should be better

Seabourn
Seabourn Quest  rated 5 star plus by us

Strengths: newish, only 450 guests, all suite, most with balcony, one of the World's finest ships, open dining
venues, wines, champagne and open bar included. Classy product, fine attentive service

Weaknesses: very very few, need a degree in engineering to work the bathroom  taps, main dining room can be a little noisy in parts, but little else to find fault with
